The Leaning Tower of Pisa

The Leaning Tower of Pisa was so cool! I've seen pictures, but it's pretty funny when you get there and it's actually leaning so much. I think it's so cool how they tried to fix it as they finished constructing it. You can see that it gets straighter towards the top. With over 200 stairs to the top it was a long trek, and your body could definitely feel the lean. At the top, there were seven bells. I never knew it was supposed to be a bell tower!

  1. I also thought it was interesting that the original architect or architects wanted to remain anonymous because the tower ended up with the unintended lean. Since the tower has become world-renowned, the architect(s) might have ended up that way as well!

  2. I also never realized it was intended to be the cathdral's bell tower! It made a lot of sense after learning that... After all it is essentially the shape of a silo and couldn't really be used for much else realistically.

  3. I thought it was really cool to see the indents in the stairs move from side to side as you walked around. People trying to walk in an upright position probably made this happen but it also still really cool that you could feel the tilt on the stairs.
